What a headache! CTC Design completed the Cx for a very high profile building. The design incorporated several airflow stations controlling several air handling unit functions. The specified airflow stations use velocity pressure to measure airflow. Theoretically, it makes sense to use airflow offsets in controlling AHU functions, but an accurate and consistent AFMS is a must have.
The velocity pressure type AFMS has proven yet again to be “sloppy” in measuring airflow, and have too high of a lower limit threshold at around 300 FPM. Additionally, they include difficult to achieve installation requirements specifically with inlet conditions. Also, good luck keeping them reading accurately by making sure the many 1/8” holes don’t get plugged in the airstream!
Anyone have experience with the thermal dispersion technology?
